There is no known antidote for the effects of pepper spray. The burning of the eyes and skin will persist until the cayenne pepper has run its course.Water will help to thin the concentration of any oil that still exists on your skin. Pepper spray is an oil extract. While not an antidote, water will lessen the effects of pepper spray as it runs its course.
Some people have experienced good results in removing the pepper spray from their skin and hands through the use of cornmeal mixed with milk and/or honey. Again, this is not a quick-fix antidote, but it is a way to lessen the effects of lingering OC cayenne pepper oil.
If you are trying to protect yourself from pepper spray, the best antidote is to cover your eyes and your nose and mouth. Given this approach, you might consider goggles and an inhalation mask to be the only antidote.
Rest assured, the effects of OC pepper spray are all temporary. The effects on your ability to breathe properly can be scary and troublesome for people who have athsma and other lung conditions. But overall, the burning and the effect on your nervous system will pass.
A reliable antidote for pepper spray does not exist at this time. This is a good thing for people who want to protect themselves because your attacker will not have an easy way of getting rid of the pain.
